France and the United Arab Emirates signed an energy cooperation agreement

France and the United Arab Emirates signed a strategic cooperation agreement in the energy sector on July 18, 2022. The partnership aims to identify joint investment projects between France and the UAE in the fields of hydrogen, renewable and nuclear energy, the French government said in a statement. In the current uncertain energy environment, this agreement will create a stable long-term framework for energy cooperation between the two countries, opening the way for new industrial contracts.

EDF and the United Arab Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) signed a letter of intent in June 2021 to cooperate in the preparation of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in nuclear research and development. Since November 2018, EDF has provided Nawah Energy in the United Arab Emirates with a range of services, including nuclear power plant operational safety, radiation protection, nuclear fuel cycle management and environmental monitoring.
