On July 26, 2022, more than 40 organizations from countries around the world formed the Nuclear Hydrogen Initiative (NHI) alliance, a coalition dedicated to nuclear hydrogen production as a key climate solution. The initiative will engage policy makers, businesses, investors and other key stakeholders to raise awareness of the important role nuclear energy can play in providing carbon-free, secure and affordable energy. The NHI will involve the financial sector in the development of nuclear hydrogen production, promote commercial partnerships and advocate for policies that support the deployment of nuclear hydrogen production.
Countries around the world are investing in hydrogen as an important tool to achieve net zero emissions, and many are poised to take advantage of the unique advantages of nuclear power to expand hydrogen production, according to the NHI's recently released debut report. Currently, 26 countries and the European Union have published hydrogen energy roadmaps or strategies, with plans for 21 countries released in the last two years. Eleven countries are developing hydrogen policies or strategies.
