Russia Beloyarsk nuclear power Plant chief Sidorov recently said that the plan to build No. 5 BN-1200 sodium-cooled fast reactor unit on the site of No. 1 and No. 2 decommissioned units. The plant plans to start construction of a radioactive waste treatment facility for spent fuel from Units 1 and 2 in 2022, Sidorov said, adding that a permit application is underway and a construction permit is expected by the end of the year.
On January 14, 2022, Loyarsk NPP announced plans to build a BN-1200 sodium-cooled fast reactor by the end of 2035, which will be the first BN-1200 reactor in Russia. The Beloyarsk nuclear Power Plant has four units: Units 1 and 2 have been permanently shut down; Unit 3 is a BN-600 sodium-cooled fast reactor, which went into operation in 1980. Unit 4, a BN-800 sodium-cooled fast reactor, was put into operation in 2015.
