Westinghouse will provide technical information on the AP1000 reactor to Ukraine nuclear

Westinghouse electric has announced a new contract with Ukraine's state nuclear power company Energoatom. Under the agreement, Westinghouse will provide AP1000 reactor technical information to support Energoatom's feasibility study update for the construction of two AP1000 reactors at The Khermelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Ukraine.

This work advances the previously signed agreement between Westinghouse and Energoatom to build the AP1000 reactors at Units 5 and 6 of Khmelnystskyi NPP, to begin the licensing process and to further develop Ukraine's clean energy program.

In June 2022, Westinghouse and Energoatom expanded their agreement with Westinghouse to supply all nuclear fuel for Ukraine's Energoatom operating unit and to build nine AP1000 reactors across the country. The AP1000 is a proven third-generation + reactor with a unique fully passive safety system, modular standard design, and industry-leading maneuverability and load tracking capabilities. The DESIGN and construction of the AP1000 reactor will leverage significant INDUSTRIAL cooperation between the United States and Ukraine, including elements of both countries' supply chains.

Westinghouse is shaping the future of carbon-free energy by providing safe, innovative nuclear technology to utilities around the world.
